About Peute Group

The Peute Group is an internationally operating company with a focus on processing paper and plastics. Founded in 1960, the company has over the past decades developed from a small, local player to one of the largest paper and plastics processors in the world. Every year, the Peute Group processes more than 1.5 million metric tons of raw materials. It now does this with 200 employees at a site covering over 60,000 m2. The head office and production site are located in Alblasserdam and in addition, the Peute Group has trading offices in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, China and Indonesia.

The combination of the new production site, the partnership with, a state-of-the-art paper sorting , 12 LDPE film sorting lines and the global network makes the Peute Group the strong and flexible player it is in the market today. In addition, the large group of permanent employees has years of experience in both commercial and production areas. Various partners worldwide and local authorities can therefore get professional advice in the field of collection and sustainable processing of recyclable paper and plastic streams.

Despite all the changes within the company and in the market in recent decades, the values within the Peute Group have remained unchanged.

The rhythm of circularity

In a constantly moving world where we see change every day, we adapt to and move along with these changes. We are the Peute Group, your reliable partner for the sustainable processing of your residual flows. To us, these residual flows are valuable raw materials which we can use within our Group to produce new products. In this way we provide sustainable solutions, and form the link between our suppliers and customers. This is how we have been already contributing to a more circular world for years.

How will the Peute Group do this even better in the future?  By taking responsibility. Throughout the organization, these words are put into practice every day. Taking responsibility for our employees, and together with all our stakeholders taking responsibility for a sustainable future of planet.  By investing in the full electrification of our machine park, generating the majority of our energy needs ourselves by means of solar panels, drastically reducing CO2 emissions by using water-related transport and a production location entirely focused on a safe and pleasant working environment, we show that we are ready for real change. Will you join us?

SCGP

Since 2022, the Peute Group has been part of SCG Packaging (further SCGP) , a leading multinational consumer packaging solutions company. With an already existing portfolio of pulp mills, paper mills and packaging mills, the addition of the Peute Group was the logical step towards full circularity for SCGP. In practice this means the paper and plastic packaging produced by SCGP can be collected through the Peute Group’s extensive network and then be used again as raw material for SCGP mills.

In addition, the partnership between the Peute Group and SCGP provides further synergies, such as the joint expansion of growth regions around the world and the sharing of knowledge between the organizations. Knowledge of collection and sorting in which Peute Group is specialized can be implemented locally by SCGP, and knowledge of packaging and its recyclability can be used by the Peute Group to make even higher-quality raw materials for its customers. With the great circular ambitions both companies have together for the future, this is therefore only the beginning of the collaboration.

Alblasserdam

In October 2023 the Peute Group moved to its new state-of-the-art location in Alblasserdam. With a beautiful and spacious office and a production site with a total area of 50,000 m2, the Peute Group is ready for further growth in the future. The focus at the new location is on the efficient processing and upgrading of paper and plastic grades.

Efficiency is partly achieved by the location right next to the Rotterdam East terminal, with which the site has a direct connection via an internal lane. In front of the production site is a 10,000 m2 logistics area with weighbridge office, where transporters can report before heading towards the production site. As a result, the flow of goods is well aligned with the capabilities of production, making the entire process of loading and unloading faster and more effective. This is further supported by the use of QR codes, a total of 40 unloading and loading positions and by the use of speed gates for transport into the terminal via the internal lane.

Besides the logistical advantages that the Peute Group can achieve in Alblasserdam, the design of the production site is also an important part of the efficient processing of paper and plastic flows. By clearly separating the various phases in the production process but connecting them in line with each other, a minimum number of steps are needed to process large volumes.

In practice this means that the unloading activities take place at the beginning of the production location after which the materials can be processed directly at short distance from this unloading location by means of sorting, shredding and/or pressing. After these processes the finished product will move from the presses towards the loading area of the site. We therefore proudly call it “The Green Lane” of Albasserdam / Rotterdam-East.

For the paper department upgrading of materials is done with the latest generation Bollegraaf sorting lines which has been designed in cooperation with the Peute Group to make high quality materials, but also to be and remain flexible in changing market conditions. The sorting line can process between 80 and 100 metric tons per hour, meaning that between 250,000 and 350,000 metric tons of paper can be sorted on an annual basis. The plastics department has 12 sorting lines that allow large volumes of LDPE films , between 60,000 and 70,000 metric tons yearly, to be sorted manually. With this extensive machine park, the Peute Group can meet the ever-increasing demand for high quality in the market.

Sustainability

Making a real difference, that is what we do at the Peute Group! By returning as many secondary raw materials as possible into new products, the basis of our operations is already sustainability focused. But our sustainability story only begins there.

In fact, the Peute Group’s new location is completely focused on a sustainable way of working. This already starts with the building itself, which is BREEAM certified and therefore has minimal impact on the environment. In addition a full-electric fleet of machines is used within the site. Because not only the forklifts are electric but also the cranes and shovels, which makes us stand out from the rest.  To complete the story, the electrical machinery is powered by electricity generated by the Peute Group itself. The more than 8,000 solar panels on the roof  provide the vast majority of our energy needs.

The location of the site right next to the Alblasserdam / Rotterdam East inland terminal enables the Peute Group to shift transport into the Port of Rotterdam from land to water, largely reducing the CO2 footprint. Currently this already ensures that every day 300 fewer road transport movements are needed, and this number will increase further in the future. We also see a growing demand from our European paper and plastic customers to have their materials delivered by water, as this also fits well with their sustainability strategies. Our intensive cooperation with the operator of the Rotterdam East terminal, BCTN terminals, has also made it possible to invest in sustainable machinery. This is shown already by the use of electric terminal vehicles but more importantly, because of the large guaranteed volumes that the Peute Group handles every month, it was also possible to invest in an electric crane to do the container handling.

Peute Group’s sustainability policy also includes close cooperation with local authorities in the field of labor market, training and education. Also in Alblasserdam people with a distance to the labor market will continue to be employed within our organization. This policy brought the Peute Group the “Social Impact” award already in 2018. In order to continue this impact, the project “Kansrijk praktijk leren” was started in 2023 in cooperation with the Da Vinci College Dordrecht and the municipality of Alblasserdam. With this project we give people the opportunity to follow a work/ learning path that can lead to a diploma and potentially to a position within the Peute Group.

QHSE

The Peute Group has been proudly operating at the new site in Alblasserdam since the end of 2023. Designed by our own team with a vision where next to recycling, the well-being of our employees and the environment play a vital role. Safety, quality, sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of our organization have been the basis for the design of the location.

Our site meets the BENG standard and is almost energy-neutral and is also BREEAM certified, which means it meets the highest international standards with regards to sustainability and a healthy working environment. Next to many things this translates into the strategic location, a roof with solar panels and water collection and drainage systems. The well-being of our employees is fostered by climate ceilings, acoustic walls and air ventilation and additionally by the office design which focuses on atmosphere, connection and comfort.

Safety for the site’s employees and visitors was an important basis from which the design has been done. By using walking bridges in the production halls our employees no longer have to pass the production area when going towards their workstations, thus preventing potentially unsafe situations. In addition, as part of our health and safety policy, our employees are trained to create a safe working environment and to proactively contribute to further improvement. All these policy choices combined with the efforts made by our employees have led to obtaining both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications for the office and production environment.

Major investments have been made in dust extraction in the paper sorting area, which contributes to both a healthier and safer working environment, and in a system for fire extinguishing that detects heat and as a result can prevent fire from starting and spreading. Next to that there is an enclosed area for charging the electric forklifts and batteries used for the cranes and shovels. This room is fireproof for up to 30 minutes, allowing us to minimize the risk of fire and unsafe situations at our site. On top of this
